Privacy: what Seafan stores and why

Seafan is a reading site. You do not need an account, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

In your browser

Some choices are saved in your own browser so the site remembers them on your next visit: the volume unit you picked (litres or gallons), the boxes you ticked on checklists and your progress along the setup path. They are stored with your browser’s local storage, never sent to us, and you can clear them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

When you sign up for new-guide emails

If you sign up, we store your email address, anything else you choose to give (your name and how much reef keeping you have done), the page you signed up from, when you signed up and when you agreed to be emailed. We use it only to email you when new Seafan guides are published. To limit repeated sign-ups we also keep a scrambled code derived from your internet address, which cannot be turned back into the address.

We rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by writing to products@cameronshields.co.uk. You can also ask us to delete your details, and we delete sign-ups when we stop sending these emails.

Service providers

  • Vercel: hosts this website.
  • Neon: the database for email sign-ups, in the EU (Frankfurt).

Our pages link to the sources we use and to Wikimedia Commons for photo credits. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
