Filter rollers and media: what reef keepers commonly use

Fleece rollers that replace filter socks, and media such as resins and phosphate removers. Below are 3 items we see often, each with our honest note and where to view it in the UK and the US.

We sell nothing and earn nothing from these links. Prices are as each retailer's page showed them on the date checked, and they change. How this guide works

What should you look for in filter rollers and media?

  • A roller saves washing socks but needs space in the sump and a power point.
  • Resins and phosphate removers work best in small amounts, changed often, with tests along the way.
  • Media in a bag needs water flowing through it, not past it.
